Nocturne
Lucian Ward. Their encounters have developed into a prolonged conflict centered on identity, control and moral boundaries.
A young criminal offender whose documented history begins
abruptly at nineteen. No verified childhood. No confirmed
family. No explanation for the years that came before.
What Vesper does have is a name, a collection of crimes,
and a man who appears entirely comfortable with the fact
that nobody can agree on where he came from.
There is no verifiable record of Jérôme Veyl before the age of nineteen.
No birth certificate. No school history. No documented family. No financial records. No childhood photographs. No genetic family match has established a connection to anyone currently known to Vesper authorities.
The name "Veyl" appears without an identifiable origin. The alias "Voile" emerged later, first in media reports describing the masked or obscured figure associated with a series of increasingly theatrical crimes. Jérôme has never publicly confirmed where the name came from.
The earliest confirmed evidence connected to Jérôme Veyl appears when he is approximately nineteen years old. Even then, the available records are fragmented.
Small robberies, fires, sabotage and unauthorized intrusions were attributed to an unidentified young man during the following years. Several investigations were abandoned for lack of evidence. Others were never formally connected.
What changed was the scale.
Bank robberies, attacks on police facilities, industrial raids and public acts of destruction eventually made "Voile" impossible for Vesper authorities to treat as a collection of unrelated incidents.
An incomplete clinical record recovered from material
associated with the former Saint Dorian complex
describes a young patient whose behavioral profile
bears similarities to Veyl.
The patient's identity remains
████████████████.
No evidence currently establishes that the patient
was Jérôme Veyl.
Veyl's confirmed criminal history includes violent attacks, large-scale property destruction, kidnapping, organized sabotage and attacks against public institutions.
During a national congress hosted at Vesper University, Jérôme Veyl attempted to seize control of the campus. The rector was taken hostage and hundreds of students were placed under threat.
Veyl's stated objective was to force the Nocturne to reveal his identity publicly. If the demand was not met, students were to be killed one by one during a live broadcast.
The operation was interrupted before the takeover could be completed. Veyl was captured by the Nocturne with assistance from VCPD officer Hector and transferred to Blackthorn Institute.
The official report considers the incident a failed hostage operation.
Unofficially, The Veil has never completely accepted that explanation.
Much of the surviving material concerning Veyl is contradictory, incomplete or impossible to authenticate. Photographs have appeared without identifiable sources. Documents have been altered. Some records disappeared entirely.
Lucian Ward. Their encounters have developed into a prolonged conflict centered on identity, control and moral boundaries.
A practical officer who understands Vesper's institutional corruption without allowing it to completely define his work.
Psychiatrist and researcher associated with Blackthorn. Their relationship is characterized by mutual observation and professional suspicion.
Assigned clinician. Vesper University graduate. Further information restricted under clinical confidentiality protocols.
Jérôme Veyl is currently held at Blackthorn Institute, a maximum-security psychiatric facility located in The Veil.
His movements are restricted and his interactions are monitored. He is considered a high-risk offender and is subject to enhanced security procedures.
Despite the restrictions, Veyl has become familiar with the institution's routines, staff and security procedures. He appears particularly attentive to changes in behavior among the people who work around him.
Whether that attention represents deliberate study, ordinary curiosity or something else remains undetermined.
There is still no verified explanation for the years before Jérôme Veyl appeared in Vesper's records.
The Saint Dorian connection remains unproven. His original identity remains unconfirmed. His motives remain difficult to reduce to a single explanation.
Blackthorn has classified the matter as unresolved.
